Writer: Not Far from the TreeNot Far from the Tree

Emerging from the warrens of medieval streets that provide a unique shopping experience in Genoa, I find a sense of home.

Industrious youth fashioning couture from trash like the young lady who makes bags and belts from bike and tractor inner tubes. From a distance her stall reads “leather,” but she is more clever!

A young couple samples 2 types of lavender oil harvested and processed at their family farm.  I tell him about our bees and sheep and he shares photos of his sheep, donkeys, horses and bees at home among acres of lavender. We exchange ideas of wool use; he shares an image of an ancient Italian carder in use.

Packing up, a young lady has samples of homemade sauces to eat with cheese. My purchase earns a bouquet of herbs-sage, Rosemary, oregano–that will scent my room fine.

Souls who feel intimate connections to the planet, the past and visions of the future are everywhere!
